The Energetics and Propulsion Department which is part of the Mechanical Engineering Directorate is looking for a Senior Flight Safety System Engineer. This organization is responsible for the design and development of propulsion technology to support the Land Warfare and Air Defense mission area.

Job Summary:

The Senior Flight Safety System Engineer position is to join our Corporate or Research Center Team: Requires knowledge of work area typically obtained through education combined with experience. May have knowledge of project management.

This position is located in Tucson Arizona.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

  • Ability to identify issues propose solutions and ensure appropriate action is taken to mitigate issues

  • Self-starter and ability to work independently.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

  • This position is a hybrid role and the selected applicant will work with the hiring manager to set schedule.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Bachelor s in Science Technology Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)

  • 5 years experience with technical engineering background in the aerospace or government sector or Advanced degree and 3 years of relevant experience.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance prior to the start date. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Value:

  • Advanced degree

  • 5 years of directly related experience in mechanical and electrical design

  • Specific experience developing electrical sub systems used in flight termination (electronic arm fire devices flight termination receivers flight termination controllers tracking systems etc.)

  • Experience developing and qualifying flight systems for harsh environments.

  • Working knowledge of RCC319.

  • Experience developing destruct termination devices.

The salary range for this role is 77000 USD - 163000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits including but not limited to medical dental vision life insurance short-term disability long-term disability 401(k) match flexible spending accounts flexible work schedules employee assistance program Employee Scholar Program parental leave paid time off and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including but not limited to individual performance business unit performance and/or the company s performance. This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
