General Overview of Position
Under the direction of the Safety Offer the Crossing Guard-Crew Chief is to schedule work for the Regular and Floater Guards. If no Guards are available the Crew Chief will be responsible for covering the assignment. The Crew Chief will also assist with Park Patrol during the months of May-September. Individuals who are hired will work during the school year approximately 20 hours per week.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for scheduling work of Regular and Floater Guards.
- Serves as the contact if Guards are unable to report for assigned work.
- Responsible for contacting replacement Floater Guards and for staffing all corners of School Crossing Guards who are unable to work.
- Responsible for staffing unattended corners; and completing necessary paperwork for Guard placement on corners on a daily basis.
- Responsible for having a department-issued cell phone with them and being available during school hours.
- Assist with recruitmentinterviewing and training of all new Crossing Guards.
- Assist with Park Patrol during the months of May-September.
- Perform all duties of the school Crossing Guard.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education Training and Experience Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to arrange for transportation to assignments.
- Availability by telephone.
- Ability to use good judgment.
- Ability to deal effectively and courteously with people of all ages.
- Prior experience working with children is desired but not necessary to apply for this position.
- No physical mental or emotional conditions which could adversely affect their ability to perform the essential duties of the job.
- Vision correctable to 20/40.
- Ability to hear normal conversation.
- Physical stamina to endure standing for extended periods of time often under inclement weather conditions.
- Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to furnish their own transportation.
- No felony conviction substantially related to the job.
Method of Selection
Selection of qualified applicants will be based upon a rating of their training experience and work record. The selection process may include written and/or oral examinations. Appointment will be made in accordance with City policy and the Civil Service Ordinance and Rules and Regulations. The City reserves the right to evaluate only those applicants who best meet the needs of the City.
CITY OF KENOSHA SUMMARY OF BENEFITS
For Part-Time School Crossing Guards
Crossing guards are classified as regular part-time employees and are covered under the Rules and Regulations of the City of Kenoshas Civil Service System. Some employees may be eligible for benefits based upon hours worked per year. Not all employees will be eligible for the benefits listed below.
Wages
The wage range for the school crossing guard classification is set by a compensation plan approved by the City of Kenosha. The wage rates for this position are divided into five (5) steps. Employees start at the first step (Step A) and receive a pay increase to the second step (Step B) after satisfactory completion of a one year probationary period. Subsequent step increases if any are awarded at one (1) year intervals (based on seniority date) until the maximum wage of the job classification is reached.
Direct Deposit
Payroll is made by for all employees. Employees must designate a checking or savings account (of their choice) at the time of hire. Salaried employees are paid on the 15th and last day of each month. Hourly employees are paid weekly on Fridays for the hours worked in the previous work week (Sunday - Saturday).
Pension
Employees who meet Department of Employee Trust Funds (ETF) eligibility requirements are enrolled in the and are required to contribute one-half of the yearly pension contribution percentage as determined by WRS. The City contributes the other half of the total required amount into the employees retirement account. The current contribution rate for non-represented (general) employees is 13.1%. The total contribution is calculated based on gross wages paid to the employee for each pay period.
Life Insurance
Term group life insurance coverage is provided to employees who participate in the WRS through the Coverage amount is based on annual salary rounded to the next highest $1000. The premium for Basic Plan coverage is paid by the City for active employees. Additional coverage and/or supplemental levels of coverage are available to employees at their own expense. Coverage becomes effective on the first of the month following thirty (30) days from the date of hire.
FICA Alternative
Those employees not expected to meet the hours requirement set by the WRS to qualify for the pension program are required to participate in a FICA Alternative Program.
Your earnings from this job may not be covered under Social Security. When you retire or if you become disabled you may receive a pension based on earnings from this job. If you do and you are also entitled to a benefit from Social Security based on either your own work or the work of your husband or wife or former husband or wife your pension may affect the amount of the Social Security benefit you receive. Your Medicare benefits however will
not be affected.
